Loch Gorm is the name given to our annual sherry matured limited edition.  Named after Islay’s largest freshwater loch neighbouring the distillery, the dark murky colour of the loch’s water is reflected in the rich coppery tones of our sherry matured Loch Gorm release..

The 2nd edition of Loch Gorm was released in April 2014. Limited to 17.100 bottles, the whisky distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2014 matured exclusively in fresh oloroso sherry butts. The renunciation of the finish in fresh oloroso sherry hogsheads, which distinguished the first Loch Gorm edition, results in a significantly less sherry-toned whisky.*

3rd EDITION
Vintage: 2009/2010 Bottled: 2015
Cask Type: Oloroso Sherry Butts & Hogsheads
Whiskybase: WB66054

Composed from casks filled in 2009 and 2010, it is only slightly older than the previous year’s version, namely just over 5 years. The difference is the partial use of oloroso sherry hogsheads and no longer exclusively sherry butts; according to Anthony Wills, these smaller casks give Loch Gorm an increased sherry influence.*

9th EDITION
Vintage: 2011, 2012 Bottled: 2021
Cask Type: 24 Oloroso Sherry Butts
Whiskybase: WB192193

The 2021 Loch Gorm edition is a vatting of 24 oloroso sherry butts filled in 2011 and 2012. As always these 500 litre sherry butts come from Bodega Miguel Martin and were filled with spirit that has a phenolic content of 50 ppm. Once these casks had been matured for a minimum of 9 years, they were then vatted together and bottled at 46% abv.

For the 2021 release, fresh sherry casks were again selected for the most part, four of the sherry butts are refill casks, while in the 2020 edition there were only one or two refill casks, but the age of 9 years is quite a bit less than in last year’s edition, where casks from 2007, 2008 and 2009 were also used and made the whisky one of the best and most complex Loch Gorm bottlings, not only in Anthony Wills’ eyes.
After the 15,000 and 15,500 bottles of the last 2 years, this year’s edition was slightly increased to meet the growing demand.*

As is well known, the annual Loch Gorm editions differ somewhat from year to year in the composition of the casks used. With two exceptions in the early days of the series, when hogsheads were also used, they are always oloroso sherry butts, but of different ages and with different numbers of first fill and refill casks.*

For the 2024 Loch Gorm edition, Anthony Wills and Robin Bignal selected 23 Oloroso sherry butts from 2014 (17 First-fill and 6 Re-fill casks).

According to Wills and Bignal, their aim in compiling the casks is to create a whisky that has a recognisable Kilchoman character despite the strong sherry tones. For this year’s release, they selected predominantly 1st fill casks, the age of 9 years is slightly higher than last year, when 22 butts from the years 2013-2015 were used.*

13th EDITION
Vintage: 2013, 2014 Bottled: 2025
Cask Type: 23 Oloroso Sherry Butts
Whiskybase: WB272177

As last year Anthony Wills and Robin Bignal selected 23 oloroso sherry butts, but this time 20 first-fill casks, rich with bold sherry influence, and 3 second-fill casks, adding depth and complexity.

The trend in the anniversary year 2025 of giving all Kilchoman bottlings an age statement is also being followed with Loch Gorm, so you can read a lot about the very first Loch Gorm, Aged 10 Years, in the advertising. Anyone expecting this to mean that the whisky is significantly older than last year’s release should note that the youngest cask in the 2024 Loch Gorm vatting was 9 years and 11 months old.*
